THE HILTON HOTELS OF BRANSON: DOWNTOWN DELUXE SISTERS

The Hiltons of Branson are two sister hotels in a prime location: footsteps from both the Historic Downtown and Branson Landing, an entertainment multiplex on Lake Taneycomo. Both are newly renovated for a first-rate Branson experience.

My stay, sponsored by the Branson/Lakes Area Convention and Tourism Bureau, was at the Hilton Branson Convention Center. It’s a 12-story glass tower with 294 guest rooms and suites. The entrance leads to a contemporary but warm lobby appointed with a dramatic curved staircase, crystal waterfall chandelier and double-sided fireplace. The concierge desk is conveniently located at the front door. The hotel was elaborately decorated for Christmas when I was there.

My 6th-floor guest room was tastefully decorated in soothing colors of navy, brown and cream with pops of tangerine and goldenrod. Two queen beds with leather-padded headboards invited restful sleep with a luscious linen package: down comfortable, triple sheets and pillow-top mattress.

In one corner of the room was a roomy easy chair and tufted ottoman, and along one wall was a spacious desk with data ports and ergonomic chair for working. (After a day of touring, I need to get handwritten notes onto my laptop because I won’t be able to decipher them later.) In the bath was a granite-topped vanity and framed mirror with sconces.

Additional amenities I appreciated were the 32-inch flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, Cuisinart coffeemaker and generous supply of Peter Thomas Roth toiletries.

The hotel has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and centers for fitness and business. There’s also a new adjoining Hilton-managed Branson Convention Center. The award-winning Level 2 Steakhouse is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner–and I highly recommend dinner, especially the steaks and butter-cake dessert.

Kitty-cornered across the railroad tracks is the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing. It’s a mid-rise hotel with 243 guest rooms and suites, many overlooking the bustle of the streetscape and the fountain show at the adjacent Town Square. The guest rooms in both hotels are decorated in similar fashion and with identical amenities.

The Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing has a fitness center, swimming pool and business center. Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant and Bar serves up comfort fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Locals hang out here, too. Maybe it’s because of the curated offerings of 100 whiskeys and 25 beers on tap. Maybe it’s because everyone feels at home here.
