2 NEW LUXURY HOTELS OPEN IN MONTERREY, MX: GRAND FIESTA AMERICANA AND LIVE AQUA

Two new luxury Monterrey Valle hotels, the Grand Fiesta Americana and Live Aqua, beckon visitors with a sophisticated but relaxed urban vibe.

Both occupy the same glass-clad skyscraper that towers over the expansive mixed-use Trebol Park Business Complex. The 180-room Grand Fiesta Americana takes up Floors 4-17, and the 74-suite Live Aqua is on Floors 18-25. Each has its own reception desk, but they share amenities and common spaces.

From every floor, views of the city and Sierra Madre Mountains beyond are far-reaching.

Grand Fiesta Americana and Live Aqua are two brands in the collection of Mexican-based luxury hotelier Posadas. I was privileged to be among the first guests during a recent media trip sponsored in part by Posadas.

A welcoming first-level lobby is appointed in a sleek white-and-black color palette, innovative lighting and cozy conversation seating. Vintage touches contrast in surprising places: A stack of well-traveled suitcases, steamer trunks and valises against a wall. An antique camera and radio interspersed with rows of gleaming white pottery.

My room on the 8th Floor of the Grand Fiesta Americana was spacious, functional and inviting. On the chaise lounge next to the window wall, I curled up to watch the scenery and streetscape. (Take the pedestrian sky-bridge to get to Starbucks and retail shops across the highway.) The bed was covered with crisp white linen, a fluffy comforter and an assortment of pillows. Other furnishings included an oversized desk, flat-screen television, credenza, dual closets and coffee station. There also were plenty of outlets to power my computer, phone and cameras.

The bath was worthy of a magazine spread. It had a dual vanity as well as enclosed rain shower and water closet. The Gilcrest & Soames toiletries were generously sized, and the towels were luxurious.

Live Aqua rooms, which we toured, feature pillow menus, aromatherapy, smart TV, electric curtains, and extra-large tub with separate rain shower. The reception desk is on the 18th Floor.

We ate breakfast and lunch in the 4th Floor restaurant, where the wait staff is attentive and smiling. The breakfast buffet offers an array of cold and hot dishes, fruits, meats, breads, juices and eggs to order. For lunch, we were served an enticing salad with arugula, goat cheese, walnuts, Iberian ham with honey, cherry tomato, potato cubes, blueberries and basil vinaigrette. That alone would have been a fine meal, but it was accompanied by a thick onion-and-cheese pizza and a course of orzo with bell pepper cream and flank steak in fragrant broth.

The hotels also share the bar, fitness center and meeting and lounge spaces. The full-service spa offers 9 types of massages and a hydrotherapy system with multiple shower and bath options in a softly lit ambiance. Choose the treatment to soothe your body, then drift into deeper relaxation while reclining in a heated chaise lounge.
